For those on campus, please use caution when moving about the campus as roads and sidewalks may be slippery, and please stay clear of all snow removal equipment. To the extent possible, those on campus are encouraged to remain indoors during the height of the storm. If you must cross Route 32, please use the pedestrian bridge.

There is a parking ban on the main campus. Please move any cars to the south, north or gravel lots. Students who live on the East side of Route 32, please move cars to the lot north of the Athletic Center. Shovels will be available for students to clear their cars after the storm - please contact Campus Safety.

With high winds predicted, the Emergency Response Team issues the following recommendations to help those on campus prepare for the storm:

- Make sure you have fresh batteries in your flashlight

- Charge your cell phone prior to the storm

- Even if the campus loses power, use of candles (or lamps or lanterns fueled by flammable liquids or gases), is strictly forbidden

Students should pay close attention to any follow-up emails with more specific instructions.

Connecticut College is OPEN on Friday, Feb. 10 by Connecticut College

Connecticut College officially reopens Friday, Feb. 10, at 8 a.m. All administrative offices will be open, and classes will resume as scheduled.

NOTE: Knowlton Dining Hall is closed on Friday.

Facilities crews have been working very hard to clear the campus, and they will continue this work throughout the night. With the unusually high volume of snow and very strong winds, it won’t be perfect, but I am very pleased with the progress we’ve made. Please allow yourself extra time and use caution when moving about the campus.

The parking ban on the main campus will remain in effect until 8 a.m., as our crews continue to clear walkways, roadways and parking areas. On Friday, our trustees will be on campus and we have reserved a number of spaces for them in front of the library and Cro. Faculty and staff: Please remember there are lots near the Plex if you’re having trouble finding a parking space.

We recognize that road conditions will vary depending on where faculty and staff live. To meet the service needs of the College, it is important that staff make every reasonable effort to report for work as scheduled. If a staff member chooses not to travel due to inclement weather, that decision — which must be communicated to the employee’s supervisor as soon as possible — will be respected. Vacation pay, if available, will be substituted for this lost time; otherwise the time will be taken without pay.

Sincerely

Richard A. Madonna, Jr.
Vice President for Finance and Administration
